Environmental education
The A Rocha Environmental Education Programme (AREEP) is reaching out to children and young people to encourage them to care for their environment. Aware of the fact the more than 50% of Uganda’s population is below 15 years of age, AREEP activities are strategically implemented in primary and secondary schools, colleges, tertiary institutions and churches, targeting the youth in a way that encourages learning through participation. The programme aims to raise awareness about creation care and to inspire practical action using readily available resources. Children also undertake practical exercises and are taught skills appropriate to their circumstances, such as growing vegetables in sacks, planting grass and trees, Farming God’s Way and making biomass briquettes from waste materials.
PLEASE HELP! Through ‘Gifts With a Difference’ at shop.arocha.org you could provide a day of sack garden training, enabling 10 people to learn how to grow food and improve their diet, even on land which floods.
Eco-Schools Litterless Campaign
Uganda Eco-Schools Litterless Campaign aims at empowering, engaging and educating Ugandan children on the issues of reducing litter and encouraging them to make positive choices as they involve the wider community. The campaign is implemented in partnership with Conservation Efforts for Community Development Foundation for Environmental Education’s Eco-Schools (CECOD- FEE) Program in 2013 and four AREEP schools successfully implemented Litterless Campaign in their schools funded by CECOD. In 2015 four more schools are planned to be added to the programmed.
